I've never liked chips. I'm just not a fan of the taste of potato chips.
I tried salted ones, paprika, pickles, even BBQ-taste. And the 'special' ones, with the strange names like 'Buggles', 'Cheetos', 'Mama Mia's' 'Grills' or 'Hula Hoops'.
No, you can't make me happy with a bag of chips.
But what I do miss is eating something crispy, something 'chipsy', something very thin that 'crackles' in my mooth. Yes, I can eat a cracker or something like that, but I actually was searching for something sweet and crispy in my mouth. Not salty, not 'oily', not savory. Beside my main meals I always crave for sweet things like fruit (dried and fresh) or yofu (soy yogurt).
I already said that I adore dried fruit. So I came up with the idea of creating my own dried fruit because homemade is so much more tasty and fun than the things you can buy in the shop.
This is how it works:
Ingredients:
- 1 apple (or 2, 3, ...) (Granny Smith)
- ground cinnamon
- patience
Method:
1. Preheat oven to 100°C/200°F.
2. Take an apple. I used Granny Smith because they're sweet ànd sour.
3. Take a sharp knife of a mandolin slicer.
4. Make very thin apple slices.
5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and cover with apples, in a single layer.
6. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
7. Bake about two hours, until brown and crispy.
8. Become this:
A crispy, sweet, light snack!
You have to try it.
